Description

Without compromising his passionate love of the Jewish homeland, Ze’ev Jabotinsky, for whom a “virtual Jewish State” existed well before the State of Israel came into being, never lost his fondness for his hometown. As he put it, Odessa was a place where “every corner of local life used somehow to get entangled with affairs and questions of worldwide range.” Jewish history has always been remarkable. In its exilic sense, culminating in the unspeakable terror of the Holocaust, the hallmark of its uniqueness was survival. Exiled, powerless, and oppressed, the Jewish People survived the tides of time as a separate religious and cultural entity, while great superpowers vanished. Post-World War II, with the advent of the Jewish State, the course of Jewish history stepped into new gear. Almost overnight, the State of Israel, a homeland for Jews gathered in from around the globe, became the dynamic hub of international affairs and the focal point of the global news desk. "Prophecies and Providence" traces the contemporary history of the Jewish People through the prism of the Bible and centuries-old writings of Jewish sages. It is little wonder that the extraordinary events the world has recently witnessed are well indicated in Scripture. The book exposes this representation, putting together a puzzle of modern history with pieces that are thousands of years old.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Rabbi Yehoshua Pfeffer was born and educated in London. After completing his high school studies, he chose to take up Talmud studies in Israel, and was soon impassioned by yeshiva life in Jerusalem. After spending several years at Yeshivas Beis Yisrael, he moved on to the Mir Yeshiva, where he remained until his marriage. Since then he has focused his studies predominantly on areas of Torah monetary law. Rabbi Pfeffer has served as a Dayan (Rabbinical judge) on a Jerusalem monetary court, and is currently the rabbi and modulator of an international halachah website. He has written numerous books and articles on different subjects of Jewish law and Jewish thought, lectures extensively for various forums in Israel and abroad, and has taught at several yeshivot, including “Chedvat Ha-Torah.” He received his rabbinic ordination in 2007, and holds a degree in law from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He resides in Jerusalem with his wife and seven children.
